About ooAmerica

Ever wished you could quit that day job, leave it all behind and hit the road? (ooamerica has moved to http://www.ooaworld.com !)

Ever wondered what it would be like to buy a clunker, sleep in it, live in it, while discovering a country, a continent and its people?

Welcome to ooAmerica, a website hosting multimedia content produced during ooa revo’s 2011-2012 USA Road Trip including videos, photos, writing, artwork and more.

The main film / documentary project will feature interviews of the very different people I’ve met along the way, with one common question: “What’s your philosophy in life?”

Watch the the movie trailer below:

The aims are, on paper, relatively simple: promote open exchange of ideas between people of all tides, as well as tolerance and peaceful thinking.

I left in April 2011, from New York to California, and returned back East in September – sleeping over 100 nights in the car and going through about 33 states.

I left again in March 2012 through May 2012, with a friend this time, in order to visit the states not yet seen, meet new people and get more pictures and footage (24 states and 9,000 miles).

Will be seeking support for the editing and post-production of the movie on Kickstarter. Thanks for helping spread the word!

Another project is a series of large photo-montages, in a (crazy) attempt to capture the diversity, beauty and deep feeling of the United States as a whole: its country, scenery, culture, and folklore. In one word: its pulp.

Readers and friends are welcome to contribute in any way. Thanks for your support!

I hope to eventually post more about the photographic approach, and, more generally speaking, the approach to this journey.

What a wonderful project! I have to tell you the title reminds me of a very old Holly Near song I always loved. I want to say it’s called “Oh, America,” but that may be only the lyrics. (“Oh, America, I now can say your name/ without feeling bitter and without feeling ashamed/ I’ve traveled across your countryside, your cities and your towns/ and I’ve seen your friendly people come and turn my head around.”)

I just popped in to thank you for following my blog. It always gives me a thrill. ;-)

    Thank you!

And all the best with your great endeavor!

Reading that reminded me very much of Jack Kerouac’s novel, ‘On the Road’ I read last year, not quite the same sentiment but similar. :) Also, Thanks for following ‘sextails’ and ‘erudite reflections’, I’ll be popping back to see you soon!

The experience of meeting such a diverse people in one country must be wonderful. I’m wondering if it was what you expected or were there things that enriched or surprised you in any way?

    • ooa revo says:

Hello! Thank you for your support. I’m not sure I understand your question: in some ways the country was ‘what I expected’, but this was not to the detriment of enriching and surprising experiences! I think they happened every day, at one level or another… not sure where to start? Hope you stay tuned, thanks.

My husband and I have traveled around the US many times, camping in a tent, in a tent trailer, in a van, with kids, without kids — never in a behemoth. America has so much to offer in the way of variety and natural beauty, we never tire of traveling there. You’ve got the right idea. Keep on truckin’.
